What is High Limit Blackjack?
High limit blackjack is simply a game of Blackjack played for big stakes. While there may be some debate on what consists of a high limit bet. It can generally be described as anything over $10,000 a bet. Some like to say that a big bet is $100,000 or more.
Most of us can only fathom the thought of betting $100,000 on a single hand of Blackjack, but there are people out there who do, and they do it with little regard for losses or even winning.

Princes and Paupers
Someone who can afford to plunk down that kind of cash on one hand of Blackjack usually doesn’t need to win. And a loss will most certainly not affect their daily lives.
These extreme high limit Blackjack games are the ones that produce the stories. They are rarely seen, but always talked about. The reason no one ever sees these Loch Ness games is because they are usually reserved for high profile people the like so princes and rich, Asian businessmen.
The casino will hold a private game, held in full lockdown. The casinos love these players and will do everything they can to keep them comfortable. After all they stand to win an absurd amount of money in a short time. Of course, they could lose it as well, but in the long run, they know these whales will be back and keep pumping their riches into the casino.
Meet the Legends
There have been a few well known Blackjack players that have come and gone. The most notable is perhaps the Australian media mogul – Kerry Packer
Packer was Australia’s wealthiest man with a net worth of over $6 billion dollars at one time. While he was famous for his wealth, he was just as famous for his blockbuster games of Blackjack.
Packer had a pension for the game and a bet of $300,000 or more was standard for the Aussie. It’s been reported that he lost $20 million on multiple occasions without a hitch in his step. But, he’s also won his fair share.
In Las Vegas, he won somewhere around $33 million at the MGM Grand. It’s been said that the employees who helped run the game were fired shortly after this incident. Not many people in the world can say they took $33 million from a casino and had people fired in the process.

MIT Blackjack
The most famous tale of high stakes Blackjack has to be that of the infamous MIT Blackjack Team. This was a group of very smart…some would say genius, group of players that was formed in the prestigious college.
The founding father of the group was Bill Kaplan. The Harvard graduate would team up J.P. Massar and begin teaching students their card counting strategy.
The team would go on to have more than 70 people counting cards in casinos all over the United States. With the strategy and rigorous training, they would have an edge over any casino they walked into. They were banned from some and caught in the act at others. But for more than 10 years, the team would go on to amass a small fortune.
The team would disband in the mid-80s, and a movie would be made in the mid 2000’s called – “21”
Massar would pop his head up occasionally in various documentaries. He was famously referred to as Mr. M and always had his faced blurred. There’s no surprise now whom the man behind the blur is these days and he even teamed up with former WSOP Main Event champion – Robert Varkonyi.
The year after Robert won the bracelet, Massar would try to produce a “foolproof” way to play poker. This tactic proved to be, let’s just say not all that great and Varkonyi would not fare so well.

If you’re looking to get a rush from betting large amounts of money, there are lots of options in today’s gambling world. No longer are high stakes games reserved for the elite.
Most live casinos will have a special high limit games section where the bets are much larger than the standard tables you will find on the main floor.
